Kyrie Irving was interviewed postgame after the Nets 104-93 win vs the Boston Celtics in Game 1. He talked about Celtics center Robert Williams, the big three dominating the third quarter, and how the team managed to close out in the fourth.
Williams finished the night with a franchise record nine blocks. Irving had this to say about the young big man: “Yeah that’s impressive… him just making a huge impact on the game… he’s shifting over every single time on every one of our drives… his timing is amazing… he’s going to test our IQ for the rest of these games.”
Irving also commented on the third quarter, where the big three of Kevin Durant, James Harden and himself dominated. This is what he had to say: “K[evin Durant] came out and was extremely aggressive… he got us going, he started attacking the rim… we made timely shots… we got to the free throw line and we stayed aggressive.”
Lastly, this is how Irving explained the team’s ability to close out in the final quarter: “I just think we needed a little separation just to settle in for the rest of the game… we’ve had the tendency just to kind of take our foot off the gas pedal… anything can happen especially around the Celtics, you know the luck of the Irish all around the Celtics.”
